JBr Decals 1/144 MiG-21R Conversion

By Matt Bittner

The MiG-21R was a reconnaissance version of the much produced MiG-21. It was able to mount the Type D daylight PHOTINT pod, Type N nighttime PHOTINT pod, Type R ELINT pod of a Type T TV system pod. To create a MiG-21R you'll need to start with one of Eduard's 1/144 MiG-21s first.

JBr Decals 1/144 MiG-21R Conversion

For this conversion JBr Decals only provides the Type D pod. The instructions show approximately where it should be mounted, along with how to create the model in a "clean" configuration. In addition JBr Decals provides the unmistakeable wing-tip pods of the MiG-21R. The only thing not provided, and which needs to be created by the modeler, is an extra piece that is to be made by sanding flat a piece of thin plastic rod, sanding or cutting the ends in unique ways and gluing this to the fuselage in front of the Type D pod. It shouldn't too difficult as JBr provides a true-length template.

There are no decals supplied with this conversion since JBr Decals has released a decal set specifically for the MiG-21R available separately. A big "thank you" to JBr Decals for sending another excellent conversion piece to review.
