JBr Decals 1/144 Spitfire Mk.IX Camo Mask
By Matt Bittner
British World War 2 aircraft camouflage was a set thing. In fact, most British camouflage were painted using real masks and hence tended to have a hard edge. So it's perfect that companies have released masks to help paint models.
This set comes from JBr Decals for the Eduard 1/144 Spitfire Mk.IX. Yes, the masks are specifically tailored for that model so using them on any other could be problematic. Actually I'm hoping I can use them also on an F-Toys Spitfire Mk.V, but that's for another article.
The masks themselves are vinyl-based so they could need extra care putting them around complex curves. I would also recommend only using the masks on a model that has been primed. When I used the AML 1/72 vinyl masks on a Spitfire Mk.II LR I pulled up acrylic paint due to that fact.
In any event it's great these masks exist and will go a long ways to help finish all those Eduard Spitfires in the stash. I'm hoping the masks will last between a few models.
My thanks to JBr Decals for sending the masks to review.
