P Mask 1/48 Messerschmitt Bf109F/G Masks
By Jacob Russell
P Masks has just introduced this set of masks for Messerschmitt Bf109F and G series aircraft. The reconnaissance variants often had the "sawtooth" patterned camouflage, and this set caters to this. The mask set consists of thin vinyl masks for the wing, horizontal stabilizers, and the upper fuselage. Most aircraft painted like this used the mid-War standard colors of RLM 74/75/76 with mottles in RLM 02, RLM 70 and/or 75.
This is a great idea. Bf109s with the sawtooth pattern camouflage are uncommon, so it 's best to work with photographs when possible, to make sure that your model accurately depicts the camouflage scheme.
This camouflage pattern was soft edged, so I would use Blue-Tac or thin rolls of Tamiya tape under each mask segment to lift it proud of the surface. I would also aim the airbrush at a 90 degree angle to the model, to make sure that your paint of choice doesn't run.
I recommend this mask set and I would like to thank P Mask for providing the review sample.
