RetroWings 1/144 Junkers Ju-87C Conversion
By Matt Bittner
During WW2 the Germans experimented with making "navalized" Ju-87s by providing them with folding wings and a tail-hook. They were labeled as the Ju-87C and there were only two of them made in 1938 and experimented with while there were five pre-production samples made (but never put into production). This conversion set from RetroWings is meant to be used on the Eduard 1/144 Ju-87B kit and provides new wings and a tail hook. Unfortunately the instructions – again, way too small – show nothing about how to assemble the parts both to each other and to the kit. It appears the inner-most "wing-stubs" are direct replacements for the kit's entire wings but there is no mention on how to assemble the rest of the resin wings to these stubs. It's definitely best to find photos of the wing-fold area and use those when creating this conversion.
Like the wing-fold, the instructions also don't show how the tail hook is added except to say it's "placed in front (and slightly to the left) of the tail wheel". Again, photos are a must to add the tail hook.
Aside from my caveats about the instructions this is a very nice conversion and will definitely be a conversation starter when others view your completed Stuka. A big "thank you" is sent to RetrokiT for sending this conversion set to review.
