RetroWings 1/144 Trumpeter Su-27 Flanker Cockpit
By Matt Bittner
If an injected 1/144 kit contains a cockpit, chances are that cockpit will have little-to-no detail. This is where resin comes in handy as its ability to contain detail is far better than most injected plastic processes. This cockpit detail set from RetroWings for the Trumpeter 1/144 Su-27 Flanker 'B' definitely has a lot of detail. Once it is painted with washes and dry brushing applied, it will look really great for this awesome scale.
You'll need to slightly enlarge the cockpit opening to accept the resin cockpit tub. Plus you'll need to sand down the area behind the ejection seat on the kit part. This is to accept the extra bit of resin detailing RetroWings provides. Unfortunately as with all RetroWings instruction sheets it's a bit too sparse – there should at least be pictures showing how the "extra parts" are added to the area behind the seat so you're sure you're adding them correctly. There are two really small resin pieces that look like antenna I have no clue (looking at the instructions) where they go.
Even with the minimal instruction sheet this is an excellent bit of aftermarket to really make your Flanker cockpit look great. Pick one up to really make your Trumpeter Su-27 look great.
Our thanks to RetrokiT for sending the Flanker cockpit to review.
