Shelf Oddity 1/144 Pit Road/GWH Victor B.2 Photoetch Set
By Matt Bittner
Another set from Shelf Oddity, this time for the Pit Road/Great Wall Hobby (GWH) Victor B.2. There is a lot of excellent detail on this set, well worth tracking down and using. It will give this excellent model quite a bit more detail for the finished product.
While there are no internal pieces there is plenty to add to the outside. Lots and lots of antennas, so it's important to study references for the particular machine you're modeling along with the Shelf Oddity instructions. Thankfully these photoetch antenna pieces also include a small "post" that you can insert into a hole you drill into the model. That way they're not just glued to the surface of the model waiting to be knocked off (although care should still be taken).
Two areas I think are great Shelf Oddity include with the set are the bomb bay aerodynamic deflectors and the crew entrance hatch. Both are built from multiple pieces so care and patience are definitely needed for their completion along with studying the instructions before assembly. But both will add a lot of "depth" to the model in its final form so they're greatly appreciated.
Finally, also included are additions to the main landing gear (not a lot as the kit's gear are really well detailed) as well as vent-surrounds for the wing-tip vents, which do need to be drilled out first.
This is an excellent set that will really add a lot of additional detail to an already outstanding kit. Add it to your model and it will definitely become a conversation piece.
My thanks to Shelf Oddity for the review sample. Keep in mind Shelf Oddity sets do not come with instructions, instead they are downloaded from their site.
