ALLIED-AXIS, THE PHOTO JOURNAL OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR" ISSUE #6 AMPERSAND PUBLISHING

By Ray Mehlberger

MSRP: $15.95

This is the latest picture album to come our way from Ampersand Publishing. Like their previous five issues, this one is also a soft-cover book of 8 1/2" x 11" page size.

I love these books, because they are not loaded with a lot of heavy – and dry – text. The format is always very clear shots of military vehicles with the captions under them only.

This new issue is 96 pages long.

There are chapters on:

  1. Tigers in the Field (Some great diorama ideas here!)

  2. Japanese Ka-Mi Amphibious Tank (There is no model kit of this vehicle as yet, but Japanese Armor king has one listed as being a future resin kit release from them).

  3. Sd.Kfz. 11 Zugkraftwagen 3-ton Halftrack (Tamiya has a kit of this one!)

  4. M20 "Diamond-T" Tank Transporter (Boo-Hoo! No kits around of this one!)

  5. 4 Ton "Diamond-T" 969A Wrecker (Another one, for which no kit exists!)

The Diamond-T articles have many, many walk-around type detail shots of their anatomy. However, the other vehicles featured in this issue do not. The chapter on the amphibious Japanese tank is rather sparse.

Counting the front and rear cover of the book, there are 167 black and white, very clear, photos in this book. I really look forward to these ALLIED-AXIS books and highly recommend them.

These issues can be found at most well stocked hobby shops. I got mine at the local one.
