This new book from Osprey focuses on the final stages of model construction, finishing and painting. Most modelers are well versed in the basics of model building (alignment, seams, etc.) but many struggle with the end result.
Author Gary Edmundson divides his book into five chapters: Paints and Finishes, Set-up and tools, Painting and Finishing model aircraft, Painting and Finishing armored vehicles, and Figures and presentation. He departs from what might be standard practice, that is, working from start to finish on a single model, and instead applies his techniques to seven different models, four aircraft and three AFVs. This slightly unorthodox approach is quite effective and it demonstrates the use of similar techniques across a diverse range of modeling subjects from World Wars One and Two.
If you are looking for a book that describes the paints and finishing techniques in wide use around the world today (for example, the increased popularity of acrylic paints over enamels and lacquers) this book is for you. I like the author's approach to his subject matter, and I like this book. I recommend it and I would like to thank Osprey Publishing for providing the review sample.
