Model Craft 4mm Glass Fibre Scratch Pencil

Model Craft 4mm Glass Fibre Scratch Pencil

By Matt Bittner

Billing Boats USA provided Internet Modeler with this tool from Model Craft.  It's a 4mm Glass Fibre Scratch Pencil that can be used for sanding and other surface-prep.

The glass fibers are encased within the pencil and you have to twist the top to bring them out.  I wouldn't bring them out very far because they can break off if used with too much force.  In addition, it is recommended that you not touch the fibers as they can easily become embedded within your flesh.  It's just like anything else that is "fiberglass".

Once the fibers are twisted out far enough, then use the pencil like you would most other sanding apperatus.  The one disadvantage to the pencil is its size, though.  It's too bulky to try and use in tight and small confines.  Using it on the surface of a model is a better bet.

Many thanks to Billing Boats USA for supplying this tool.
