Model Craft Carvers/Spatulas

Model Craft Carvers/Spatulas

By Matt Bittner

There has been a point, most recently, where I was looking for "something better" to apply Apoxie with. I was using the blunt end of a toothpick, but it would take a few applications to apply the putty in a 45 degree joint. When these Carvers/Spatulas arrived from Billing Boats USA, I knew someone was picking up my thoughts. These tools are excellent for applying any kind of putty, Apoxie or otherwise. You can see one of the photos how I used it to apply the Apoxie in a fin-to-fuselage joint on an Eduard 1/72 Albatros D.V. I was able to use this tool also to smooth out the Apoxie almost perfectly. With one swipe with sandpaper, I had a perfect seam with no evidence of gaps. Excellent!

I highly recommend purchasing these Carvers/Spatulas for at the very least to be use to apply putty. They work great for at least that task. I suspect there are other uses for them as well, but for me, being able to easily apply putty is the best use for these tools.

Huge, huge thanks to Billing Boats USA not only for supplying the review tools, but also for listening to my thoughts. Now if only someone would hear my thoughts about a brand new tool 1/72 Polikarpov I-153...
