Euromilitaire 2001 Show Report

Euromilitaire is one of THE events in the European modelling calendar. For figures and armour enthusiasts this is a great show. Competition on an international level, fantastic models to be seen and of course lots of traders offering everything from books and magazines to kits and add-ons as well as the chance to meet up with people who share your love of the hobby. It's a fantastic opportunity to see a kit that might have been tempting you "in the flesh". Sometimes you want to know if it is as good as the photos in the magazines make it look and in many instances it is better – although worse for the wallet ;-).

Temptation abounded as Historex Agents, LSA Modesl, Andrea Minatures, Pegaso and The Fusilier were there amongst many others. The Fusilier's Australian Light Horse figure has got to be one of the best mounted figures I've seen. Pili Pili were also there and I spent ages making a final decision before purchasing a resin Cavalier - I'm afraid I wanted them all!

Demonstrations on airbrushing, shading and making trees were going on in an upstairs gallery while other upstairs galleries had models on display. There was plenty to see outside as some period re-enactors were there along with a radio control club running some 1/16 tanks! Needless to say these were a huge hit with both the big and little kids.

Back inside and the competition judging is in full swing. As usual there was some pretty fierce competition in most of the categories. Best of Show went to "Halt Polizei", a scratchbuilt model depicting Indiana Jones and his father on a "borrowed" German motorcycle and sidecar from "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade". I have seen an article on the building of this model and I must say that I think the award was well deserved.

But there are so many other great examples of the modeller's art to be seen at Euromilitaire so have a look at these photos by Stephen Jamison. (To my shame I took hardly any - too busy rushing about with excitement).
