Just in our news room is a notice of a new kit company out of the Czech Republic. Valom is based in Prague and is focusing on 1/72 models of aircraft flown during the Second World War, especially those lesser known types. The kits will be of short-run technology with accessories (probably etched brass and resin) to add details. They are committed to constantly improving their kit quality as well.

Their first kits are interesting subjects not usually seen in regular kit catalogs. The first kit, available sometime this month, is the Sukhoi Su-6 AM-42, a competitor to the Ilyushin Il-10 at the end of the Second World War. From the boxtop illustration it doesn't look like the most attractive of aircraft, but it definitely is an interesting subject. Here's hoping that they also come out with an Il-10 as well.

Their second kit will be the Yokosuka D3Y1-K, a Japanese dive bomber trainer based on the D3Y. This kit will be available around December of 2002. After this release we can expect to see the Sukhoi Su-8 sometime in first quarter 2003.

It's always great to see a new company come onto the modeling scene and the eclectic subject matter should endear Valom to those modelers who like having something different on their shelves. We hope to have an inbox review of the Su-6 in the September issue and we'll let you know our first impressions of this new company's products then.
