Brengun 1/32 Tugmaster Tractor

Brengun 1/32 Tugmaster Tractor

By JACOB RUSSELL

The Douglas Tugmaster flight deck tractor was derived from an industrial towing vehicle and it was in service on the aircraft carriers of the Royal Navy in the 1950s and 1960s. A purpose-built 4 wheel drive replaced it in the mid 1960s.

Brengun has produced this kit in the popular 1/72nd and 1/48th scales and now they have introduced a 1/32nd scale version. It comes in Brendan’s customary stout cardboard box with a color photo of the finished model on top. The kit consists of 21 resin pieces plus 8 photo etch parts on a small fret; there’s also a small decal sheet.

Brengun kits are known for the quality of their resin casting and the Tugmaster kit doesn’t disappoint. The hefty yet simple nature of the deck tractor is well captured. The large main casting of the engine cover and driver’s compartment is very impressive with well rendered deck plating fore and aft of the front wheels. The chunky wheels and tires are extremely well done. Most of the largest parts are attached to substantial casting blocks, but a few minutes with your razor saw will quickly free the parts from them.

The small PE fret includes a lovely oval Douglas Tugmaster grill, a grab handle for the engine cover, brake handle, etc. The small decal sheet caters to an overall orange yellow Tugmaster in service on HMS Victoria in 1964.

What a cool kit of an obscure (to Me) vehicle. The kit is simple, well detailed and it will be easy to build. I recommend this kit and I would like to thank Brengun for the review sample.
