Hauler 1/87 T-62

Hauler 1/87 T-62

By JACOB RUSSELL

The Tank

The T-62 main battle tank, a further development of the Soviet T-55 series, was first introduced in 1961. It shared the low profile and thick turret armor of its predecessor. The T-62 was the first production tank with a smoothbore gun able to fire APFSDS rounds (Armor-Piercing Fin-Stabilized Discarding Sabot) at higher velocities. The T-62 became the standard tank in the Soviet arsenal but it didn’t fully replace the T-55 in export markets, due to its greater maintenance requirements and higher manufacturing costs.

The Kit

Hauler’s T-62 kit is part of their HO Line. It is a simple kit, consisting of 14 resin parts plus 9 photo-etch parts on a small fret. The quality of the resin parts is up to Hauler’s usual high standards. The wheels, treads and fenders are single pieces and they are superb. They are attached to some hefty casting blocks, so take your time removing them from the blocks with your razor saw. The turret and the gun also look great.

The PE parts are turret grab handles, headlight guard and towing eyes. The tiny decal sheet includes markings for Syrian and Russian T-62s.

Conclusion

This is a neat little kit that once finished will fit in the palm of your hand. It’s a perfect palette cleanser or break from one of your more complex projects. Don’t be fooled by the low parts count; it will take patience, skill and finesse to get the most from this kit. I recommend this T-62 kit and I would like to thank Brengun for the review sample.
