Eduard 1/48 Il2 Enhancements
By Jacob Russell
Zvezda's new 1/48th scale Il-2 mod. 1943 is a highly acclaimed kit. It's accurate and well detailed right out of the box, and Eduard has produced some aftermarket parts for it. Let's take a look at several of them:
EX857 Il-2 mod. 1943 TFace Masks
These rice paper masks are for both the inside and outside of the windscreen and canopy. The Il-2 had a large "greehouse" so these masks will simplify an otherwise burdensome task.
FE1271 Il-2 mod. 1943 Photo-etch
The single fret offers numerous upgrades for both inside and outside of the airframe. There are 24 pieces on a single fret and many of these are pre-painted. It includes a new instrument panel, rudder pedals, throttle quadrant, sidewall consoles, etc.
FE1272 Il-2 mod. 1943 seatbelts STEEL
This 7 piece pre-painted fret is a single set of belts for the pilot's seat and a wide leather belt to support the gunner.
Conclusion
Zvezda's new Ilyushin Il-2 mod. 1943 is a great kit of a historically important aircraft. It's accurate and well detailed right out of the box and it builds into a great model. Eduard ups the detail level with an easy to use canopy mask set and 2 useful PE sets. I recommend these IL-2 sets and I would like to thank Eduard for the review samples.
