While much attention has been given American and German tanks of the Second World War, many other nations fielded armored vehicles, including France. This title in the New Vanguard series is the first of two volumes that cover the French tanks of World War II, from the Renault FT to the Char B1 bis. The book covers the development and an evaluation of their operations during the Battle of France in the opening stages of the war on the Western Front.

Made famous during the Second World War, the aircraft carrier became an essential part of American power projection during the Cold War. It was not long after the war that new carrier designs came to the forefront, with the Forrestal Class becoming the first of a new generation of supercarriers. Further building on the Forrestal design, the Kitty Hawk Class was larger, with advanced defensive weapons systems. Finally, the first nuclear-powered carrier, the USS Enterprise, took all of the advantages of the Kitty Hawk class and added the benefits of nuclear power. This book documents the development and operational histories of these three classes of carriers, with detailed text, lots of photos, and colorful artwork.

The second volume in a two-part series on French tanks of the Second World War, this book picks up where the first one left off. While the first volume covered the main tanks such as the Char 1B, this book covers the smaller cavalry tanks, including the Renault AMR 33 and 35 and the Hotchkiss H39 and H39. The book also covers the overall operational history of French tanks in the 1940 campaign,  as well as their use after the 1940 armistice. These two volumes make an excellent overview of French tanks in the late 1930s and early 1940s.

My thanks to Osprey Publishing for the review copies.
