AGAMA WW1 Enamel Paints

By Bob Pearson

A new line of paints has made its appearance courtesy of the various Eastern Eurpoean Mail Order houses - in this case VAMP. Looking through an Agama catalog I see many different lines of paints put out by this company, ranging from WW1 to Modern .. three pages worth in fact. A pleasant surprise was finding 15 of the WW1 paints included with a recent order. They include:

B28P British PC - 10
B29P British PC - 12
B30P Clear doped linen
B31P British NIVO

F8P French Beige
F9P French Chestnut brown
F10P French Dark green
F11P French Light green

N37P German Dark green
N38P German Red brown
N39P German Light green
N40P German Mauve
N41P German Light blue
N42P German Turquoise
N43P German Olive - Fokker green

Although I haven't used them on a complete model yet, I have tried them on an Albatros D.V that was laying around as well as tested it for airbrush use. Additionally I have painted a sample of each colour on a piece of plastic card to compare the colours to other samples I have from various references.

The results of all this is that the paint airbrushes nicely - I used Modelmaster thinner in my test. Hand brushed on it covers well, although more then one coat is required if used over an earlier colour. I have seen other reviews that say the paint dries VERY flat, however this is not my experience at all .. in fact only the German Light Blue dried flat, all the others had a gloss to them

The paint comes in the standard 14ml tin a'la Humbrol - in fact the smell reminds me of what Humbrol smelled like 20 years ago, and the paint is 'brushless' in the same manner.

Conclusion

All-in-all, for a buck a tin, I want more.

My thanks to Lubos Vinar of VAMP Mail Order for the review samples.
