ICM
I wanted to write a little about ICM, then list all the articles that
were written before on ICM kits.
ICM first came to the attention of those of us in the USofA some years
ago - I'm thinking 1998, but it could have been before then as well. I
heard about the kits they were offering, but found it quite difficult
to pick any up. Then, when I was in St. Louis for a contest, I stopped
at CRM and lo and behold, picked up their Polikarpov I-152. Their initial
releases back then were the I-152, the Tupolev Tu-2, and the Yakovlev
Yak-9 (in various types). Nirvana for those who enjoyed building WW2 (Great
Patriotic War - GPW) VVS (Soviet Air Force). Finding other Soviet WW2
aircraft was quite difficult back then, and most were not accurate. ICM
set the bar quite high.
Fast forward a few years. ICM is still difficult to come by in the USofA,
but they went through a "restructuring". I still haven't figured
out exactly what happened, but in order not to be confused with the "old"
company, they "kind of" changed their name to ICM Holding. A
few other companies picked up their molds (Alanger comes to mind, plus
there was some agreement between Squadron and ICM for Squadron to release
their first three kits under the Encore banner) but ICM still retained
most of what they put out to this day.
Now look at ICM. They put out wonderful product (even though a few think
a couple of their 1/48th kits could be "knock offs" of other
molds) and come highly regarded. With the release of the Polikarpov I-5
their molding has improved ten-fold (not that it was bad originally) to
put them in the league of the better-known Japanese companies. Not only
that, they realised they could do better, and re-mastered their original
release, the Polikarpov I-152. In addition, Italeri is now their world-wide
distributor, which means to those of us in the USofA Testors now brings
in ICM, which means we should see them more readily available here. Excellent!
Since Testors recently sent a number of review sites - including Internet
Modeler - a large box of ICM kits, you're no doubt noticing more ICM reviews.
Well, most of these have been reviewed in the past on IM, so the following
is a break down of already-reviewed (both First Looks and full builds)
ICM kits.
